Romeo and Juliet
Romeo and Juliet
Well on todays blog I’m still going to talk music and a little film some of you younger people probably have not seen and may want too after : Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 Romeo and Juliet … I was listening to Josh Groban singing Un Giorno Per Noi translation ( A Time For Us ) a beautiful song written by Nino Rota and Henry Mancini brought back so many memories from high school…different time different era. Imagine go back to 1968 the era of Woodstock the Vietnam war free love and I’ll stop there lol I was 15 yrs old at the time and went to an all girls catholic high school I had Sister Kevin as my English lit teacher and she was a total romantic I mean I learned all my Shakespeare by listening to a recording of Richard Burton reading Shakespeare… she totally crushed on him (who says nuns don’t fall in love) she was totally into him lol - I loved her- well she gathered all her young impressionable teens and took us on a field trip to downtown Chicago to see Romeo and Juliet the movie.Sister Kevin knew exactly what she was doing …well can I say from that day forward we all loved Shakespeare lol! The love seen alone was exciting for us .. don’t forget this was 1968 lol! The movie and music was so well done and now a classic it had at the time received many awards for movie and music it’s still 97% on rotten tomatoes

I love the movie Romeo and Juliet!!! It was sad to me!!
I love that movie and its music as well. I still have the original soundtrack on vinyl. I can understand quite well why you have such a fondness for it. That high school experience is indelibly imprinted in your soul. (Thank you, Sister Kevin.) Btw, have you seen the later version of the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio? I fought with it at first, but later, came to appreciate it as well. However, the 1968 version is my favorite.
