What can I say about Julia child that hasn’t already been said or written, if your not sure of whom I’m talking about you’ve been living under a rock lol😂.
First a little background: famous American cook, author of in my opinion the best French cuisine cook book : Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Born august 15 1912 to a prominent land manager and a paper heiress in Southern California . They where wealthy and had a family cook but this isn’t where Julia learned her art of cooking that she learned from her husband Paul’s family who where really into food . After her graduation from Smith she worked as a copywriter for a ad company in New York City.
During World War II Julia was in the OSS todays CIA -omg who knew as a top secret researcher, working with the head of the OSS General William J Donavan.
She met her husband Paul who also was a OSS employee, even thou Paul was a native of New Jersey, he had lived in Paris as a artist and poet , but Paul was known for his sophisticated palette and introduced Julia to fine French cuisine.
1948 Paul was assigned to Paris and so the story goes.
Julia graduated from the Cordon Bleu and later studied privately under master chefs. She joined The Women’s Cooking Club ( Le Cercle Des Gourmettes ) where she met Simone Beck and Louisette Bertholle and in 1961 the first volume of Mastering the Art of French Cooking was published. The three worked and collaborated on the book together.
To me this is one of the greatest recipe books ever written. The recipes are exquisite and delicious I’ve cooked quite a few and will post two of my favorite recipes. Please excuse the condition of my book it’s very old and loved.
My favorite blog in your series. I love to cook and this struck a chord. She was a character but what a full and fascinating life. Oh, and a pretty good cook too. I've got to try her Souffle
Love French cuisine. I prefer to consume it rather than prepare it (not much into cooking). Like David, this is my favorite blog of yours to date. ❤🍾🫕🥂🍷
